Pres-N-Snap FAQs | Tool, Die, and Installation Questions Answered

The Pres-N-Snap is a professional hand tool used to install snap fasteners, grommets, turn buttons, rivets, and other textile fasteners. It is widely used in marine upholstery, automotive interiors, canvas work, tarps, leather goods, and more.

The tool is designed to work with materials like:

For thicker materials or tight corners, we recommend pairing the Pres-N-Snap with the correct die set and bench mount.

With the right die set, the Pres-N-Snap can install:

• 24 Ligne and 20 Ligne snap fasteners
• Baby Durable™ snaps
• Spring snaps
• Self-piercing and plain grommets
• Spur grommets
• Turn-type fasteners (e.g., DOT Common Sense™)
• Lift-the-DOT™ fasteners
• Pearl and prong Western snaps
• Rivets and tack buttons
• Plastic snap systems (e.g., YKK™ SP series)

Yes. Even if two fasteners appear similar in size, different brands have slight variations in shape and depth that require unique die sets for proper installation.

We offer die sets specifically matched to brands like DOT™, Fasnap™, YKK™, Surefas™, Stimpson™, Morito Scovill, and others. See our Pres-N-Snap Dies page for details.

Dies can be installed or removed in seconds with a simple twist-and-pull motion.

• The upper die inserts into the top of the frame.
• The lower die presses into the plunger shaft.

Note: Always confirm with your distributor which dies are included. Additional die sets are sold separately.

Yes. The Pres-N-Snap can be mounted vertically or horizontally using our Bench Mount accessory. This is especially useful for:

• High-volume projects
• Installing larger grommets
• Improving tool control during repetitive use

Absolutely. The tool is lightweight and hand-powered, making it perfect for mobile repair services, on-site installations, or fieldwork where electricity or air tools aren't available.

• Plain grommets are smooth inside and out, and typically used with flat washers.
• Spur grommets have small teeth (spurs) that grip the material for added holding power — especially useful in high-stress applications like tents or tarps.

We offer die sets for both types.

Only for non–self-piercing grommets. For these, we offer hole punches in sizes #00 through #3.

If you're using self-piercing grommets, no punch is required — the grommet and die will create the hole during installation.

Yes. All components of the Pres-N-Snap tool are replaceable, including:

• O-rings
• Rubber retainers
• Handle hardware
• Die parts
• Plunger assembly

HooVer Products offers a limited lifetime warranty on all Pres-N-Snap tools. This warranty covers:

• Manufacturing defects
• Defects in materials or workmanship

It does not cover misuse, abuse, or wear from improper fastener installation. For warranty support, contact us directly.
